Why Product Portfolio Breadth Matters to Healthcare Buyers

1 min read

Portfolio breadth and portfolio depth answer different questions. Breadth describes the range of relevant categories; depth concerns the presentations and information within a category. A buyer should assess both before concluding that a catalogue meets a business requirement.

Count meaningful presentations

Do not use the number of website records as a direct measure of distinct products. Artwork views, pack options and different formulations may all appear as separate entries. Preserve the records for enquiry purposes while asking the product team to clarify their relationships.

Test depth where it matters

Choose the categories relevant to your buyers and inspect individual records. Can you identify the form, strength expression and pack? Which details still need confirmation? A broad category list does not compensate for missing facts on the products you actually need.

Use a two-part review

Review Useful question
Category coverage Does the catalogue contain presentations related to our documented requirements?
Information depth Can we identify and obtain the evidence for those exact presentations?

Keep an information gap separate from an irrelevant product. The first may require a clarification enquiry; the second may simply fall outside the current scope.

Turn breadth into a focused discussion

Use the Dr. ICO catalogue to select a representative shortlist across relevant categories. Explain why those lines matter and which facts you need next. Do not request an entire portfolio by default if only a few presentations are under assessment.

A focused enquiry allows the discussion to address actual buyer requirements. Any broader range decision should follow the product evidence and commercial review, rather than a headline catalogue count.
