Product Sourcing

Building a Strong B2B Healthcare Product Sourcing Strategy

1 min read

A healthcare sourcing strategy turns a broad purchasing objective into a sequence of decisions. Define what must be known at each stage so the team can progress a promising presentation without treating every unresolved question as already settled.

Stage one: define the requirement

Record the intended destination, customer channel, presentation and quantity basis. State which details are fixed and which are exploratory. A request for a product category is different from a request for a named form, strength and pack.

Stage two: screen product information

Identify candidate records in the Dr. ICO catalogue. Keep their exact URLs and note missing specification fields. Ask for current information rather than borrowing composition or pack details from a superficially similar product.

Stage three: obtain the relevant reviews

Route the product and proposed market to the people responsible for local requirements and operational assessment. Use their questions to refine the supplier enquiry. The scope and evidence required depend on the actual presentation and transaction; a generic checklist cannot establish compliance.

Stage four: discuss the commercial proposal

Once product identity is clear, compare any commercial responses on the same basis. Record units, assumptions and conditions. Do not interpret a catalogue page as a confirmed quotation, availability statement or supply commitment.

Stage five: record the decision

Write down what was agreed, what remains conditional and who owns the next action. Keep earlier information versions available for traceability. A sourcing decision should be revisited when a change affects its underlying assumptions.

Use the Inquiry List for the product shortlist and the business partners page when the discussion concerns a broader relationship. Match the enquiry route to the decision you are trying to reach.
